Editing Techniques

This is a link to the ending of a film which I think is a perfect example of good editing. It has elements of continunituiy editing because it all makes sense in the order it has been put it. It also uses jump cuts in the way in which it flashbacks to what happened before. Obviously it also uses flashbacks. The main one used here is Montage Editing because it keeps flashing back to what has happened before to help the audience and the character realise what has been gonig on and in some respect it makes the story what it is, and helps put the missing peices into place. This has been used to also create a sense of confusion for both the character and the audience whoa re watching. It also helps um remeber small thigns which have happened, because when you do find out something big and important you are quite often in shock and many images cross your mind quickly and in a short peice of time.

How does the editing in Saw construct the meaning about the relationship between characters?

I think that the editing in this last section of the films clarifies everything that has happened in the film so far. It shows the relationships between each character. The other guy in the room, his wife and child, the man lying in the room.

Music Inspiration

This is a fantastic piece of music which everytime I listen to gives me loads of inspiration for this type of music being in our film. It is a peice of music which allows your mind to figure out the riddle in a way. This is the type of music i would like in our film.

Update!

We have drafted some new thumbnails, and we have now decided that we are going to see the kidnapper drive home, go into his house, sit down and make a drink for himself. He will then look at a missing poster which has been put on his doorstop. This is of the girl. He then walks out in to the garage. As soon as he walks in some fast up tempo, scary music starts. We then see the girl get dragged in to the garage as a flashback. We see the kidnapper standing over her, and burning the missing poster. Then the title comes up.

Evaluation of the Draft

After filming, we realised that we need to make the film more realistic. We need to take into consideration of what the setting would be like, because it was a last minute decision. We also need to make the make up on our actor more relastic because we found that it wasn't believable. We also have to make sure that the shots are done in a way where we can edit them easily, and not having peices missing because we had to put some transitions in to make the conitinutity work well. We have now decided that we are going to have the kidnapper and be shown as a completely normal guy, having this big secret. The girl hidden in the garage.

This will work more because it has a better narative. We also might show her being dragged in to the garage, so we can give more of a background to the film itself. When re filming we are going to create it with more imaginary shots.

Actress Photos

Here are some shots which we took of Maddy whilst we were filming the draft of our film opening. We have given her a dirty look to show what she has been through but we are hoping to emphasise this even more in our final opening. We were originally going to use these photos in our opening but for our draft we decided not to do this, however we hope to still include pictures of her in our final film opening and will take more during filming.

The make up on the girl in these pictures looks unprofessional and not realistic. When we come to shooting the final thing we need to make it more realistic looking, as if she ahs been dragged across the floor to be taken into the garage and kidnapped. We plan to do this, by taking off all of the actresses make up off, remove ehr of persoanl items such as her head band, and make the fake blood more realistic looking.

The Soloist

This is the trailer for "The Soloist", which was released on the 24th of April, 2009 (US) and the 11th of September 2009 (UK). The film explores issues such as homelessness and mental illnesses. It is directed by Joe Wright and starts stars such as Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr.

The Budget for the film was 60 Million Dollars.

The film got a 55% rating and was said to be "Rotten". It only made just over half of their budget bringing in a total of $31,720,158. The reason it was said to have been so bad was because the original release date was prosponed and then a week before the summer. If it was realsed in May when it should of been in might of been up for academy awards.

The film was Distributued by Dreamworks (US)
Universal Studios (International)

Using the star personna liek they have certianly boosts the films bullseye.

Here are some reviews for the film:

"The two actors work beautifully together, playing characters who are angry and frustrated in their different ways, and sentimentality is kept firmly at bay. "

"The Soloist brings to life its story with genuine compassion, neatly avoiding many of the traps that afflict Hollywood films about mental illness. And Jamie Foxx's transformation will simply astound. "

These shows that the film was a huge success.
Below is some of the not so good reviews:

"Ultimately, the reason that The Soloist fails is because the writer and the director have been bamboozled by the seriousness of the subject matter."

"The Soloist isn't the cringe-worthy Rain Man rip-off it might have been, but that's the only surprise this film has to offer. If it were a piece of music, it would be the kind you hear in a lift when you're stuck between floors... "

Generally, there is a mix in what people seem to think of the film.

This is the poster to the film.
I think that it is a gripping poster and draws in the audience straights away and allows you to want to watch the film.
